Berlucchi broke the mold in 1961 when they introduced the region's first champagne method sparkling wine, now called Franciacorta. At the time this was an incredible innovation in the cellar and a big achievement in quality for a region known for relatively uninteresting still, white wines.
Today Berlucchi is a leading winery in the region for sustainability with 100% of their owned vineyards certified organic. Berlucchi is also the only winery in Franciacorta to be in the Wine Spectator Top 100.
GRAPES
Chardonnay (85%) e Pinot Noir (15%), from the best vineyards in the 19 municipal areas of Franciacorta.
VINIFICATION & MATURATION
Gentle, gradual pressing of clusters with fractioning of the must; alcoholic fermentation in steel vats.
Assemblage of the cuvée in the spring following harvest, with the contribution of 20% of reserve wines expertly divided between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Second fermentation in the bottles and maturation sur lie for a minimum of 24 months followed by an additional 2 months after disgorgement.
