Get to Know Montefili

Perched high above Panzano, in the very heart of Chianti Classico, Vecchie Terre di Montefili is more than a winery — it is a living dialogue between altitude, soil, and time. At 500 metres above sea level, our vineyards look out over centuries of Tuscan history, where the contours of the land shape both the flavour of the wine and the philosophy of its makers.

Founded in 1975 and since 2015 under the care of three friends united by a deep respect for Sangiovese, Montefili is led by winemaker and agronomist Serena Gusmeri. Serena’s work begins in the vineyard, where each parcel is understood as an individual, responding differently to altitude, wind, and exposure. Every choice — from manual harvesting to small-batch vinification — is made with quiet precision and an uncompromising commitment to quality.

Our wines are naturally scarce. We make only what nature gives us, never more. This is not scarcity by design but by truth — the result of working in balance with the land.

Montefili is also a guardian of biodiversity. Through collaboration with scientists and botanists, we monitor flora and microfauna, earning the Diversity Ark certification in recognition of our efforts to protect the ecosystem.

The result is a collection of high-altitude, low-intervention wines that combine purity, elegance, and depth. They are wines for those who appreciate luxury in its most discreet form — for those who recognise depth in restraint and authenticity in rarity.

Visiting Montefili is to step into this rhythm: to feel the wind through the vines, to taste a Sangiovese shaped by elevation, and to understand that our wines are not designed — they are revealed, one vintage at a time.
